“Children are not a distraction from more important work. They are THE MOST important work.”
-C.S. Lewis
Moxie Family Counseling offers counseling for children, adolescents, and their families through a wide range of challenges.
We will utilize different approaches depending on your needs and situations. This may include evidenced based practices such as play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and collaboration with parents and care givers to learn skills and build support at home.
We can help with a variety of emotional/behavioral issues including:
anxiety
depression
impulse control issues
temper tantrums
aggressive behaviors
non-compliant behaviors
trauma
divorce
grief/loss
sleep issues
anger management
social communication/social skills
There may be times when we need to work through issues with your entire family. We will work to create a plan to work on the issues that impact your family dynamic.
Family sessions may include:
practicing healthy communication
improving family interactions and routines
learning effective ways to cope with stressors
No two families are alike and no two children are the same. There is no single method or type of parenting that will work with all situations you may face. At Moxie Family Counseling we utilize Positive Parenting/ Parent Management Training (PMT) to help you as a family work through issues together.
In PMT, which is for children ages 3 to 13, parents are usually seen without the child present, although children may be asked to participate in some sessions. Skills to deal more effectively with challenging behaviors are taught and modeled by the therapist and then role-played with parents. After each session, parents are expected to practice the skills at home.
Some of these issues may include:
inappropriate behavior/tantrums/acting out
lying/cheating/stealing
social skills
bullying
coping skills
parenting adolescents and teenagers
parenting in separation, divorce and blended families
adoption and foster care
