Calendar Fun
Have you ever perused the National Day Calendar? It has a giant list of oddball, wacky and fun holidays you can celebrate with your kids and loved ones. For example, have you ever thrown a party for National Cuddle Up Day (January 6th) or maybe you want to jump ahead and start planning for National Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17th). These are fun opportunities to have some fun, be silly and try new things to connect family members and even your schools and greater communities.
I’ve heard several friends say that one of their goals this year is to increase connection in their families and specially have individual special time with each of their children. This can seem daunting at first especially if you have more than one child and other responsibilities- like jobs, dishes, pets, you know- all the things. Research shows that one on one time with children will give you more “bang for your buck” than time out and discipline and rewards. You can use the daily calendar days to think of big and little ways to let your children and teens know you’re thinking of them and love them.
Some of my best memories from childhood is how my mom used to make things so special. I would have sandwich’s in heart shapes for Valentine’s Day, lucky charms for St. Patty’s day and everything in between. If she could think of a way to make a day special, she would and still does. One of the best times of the day is when I go to check the mailbox and she’s sent me a card or note or a little prize to let me she’s thinking of me.
