all you need is love
Ah, love. Valentine’s day is tomorrow and maybe you don’t buy into the day because who needs a holiday to tell someone I love them. Or maybe back in 5th grade, the girl you liked didn’t give you a valentine or the boy in 8th grade made fun of your outfit. More seriously though, maybe in your family love wasn’t around or shown to you like you needed it to be.
Good news friends! We can decide to change things and teach ourselves and others how we like to be shown love and how we give love. Gary Chapman’s book The Five Love Languages has been made into a several different versions for couples, parents, kids, and is a practical and engaging way to look at love in a new way.
The basic idea is that there are 5 main love languages- this is the primary way you give and receive love. They are: physical touch, words of affirmation, acts of services, receiving gifts, and quality time. You can click on the link and take a quiz and then the love language profile will explain your primary love language, what it means, and how you can use it to connect to others.
Once you have this basic information, go and explore the website and have the rest of your family take the quiz. Maybe pick up one of the books and see how it can change the way you give and get love.
