Hello. My name is....
Do you love your name? Does it mean something special or are you named after a loved one? I have always loved naming things-my toys, dolls, cars, my baby, but I have to say I’ve had the most fun naming my practice.
I have always loved the word moxie and it’s definition- “force of character, determination, or nerve. “ Urban Dictionary says “sass, courage, spunk, determination, attitude,” all of which are alternate names my parents could probably say I went by at various times growing up. I know there’s Moxie soda on the East coast but I’ve never tried it. But I know the exact point I thought the word was really awesome.
In the summer of 1994 I was working at a summer camp in Washington, far away from my family in California. My oldest sister, Allison, sent me a care package that summer that had a mix tape in it. Mix tape? Like a playlist… :) Among songs from Rod Stewart and oldies from our childhood, there was a song called “My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors” by a band called Moxy Fruvous. I now know that they’re a Canadian band but all I knew back then was my cool older sister put in on the tape, so it must be awesome.
I’m not sure if I still have the tape any more, but I do have Moxy Fruvous downloaded on my iphone to listen to when I need a pick me up or to remind myself of who and what I am. I think we can all have multiple names, but in the end we get to pick which ones stick.
With Moxie Family Counseling, i want to help kids and families find the courage to be who they are meant to be.
Just for fun here’s a link to the song. have a listen and have fun
