International Women’s Day 2019 is this Friday, March 8, 2019. When I was looking around for resources to share with you, I struck gold by going to the official website for International Women’s Day. They have an entire section dedicated to celebrating with She-Ra! How rad is that? She-Ra and the Princesses of Power each come with unique powers and special abilities and work together to fight for good and restore balance in the world.
I always loved She-Ra growing up and thinks this reboot is super awesome. I love the characters and the fact that it has an all female writing staff and other women at the helm is pretty inspiring. I know there’s a lot of material out there about not wanting to make little girls into princesses and that there’s more to life than dress up and beauty- but I think She-Ra and her friends are doing a great job to show that girls are strong and girls can do anything.
I especially related to Glimmer-Princess of Bright Moon. She is “sweet and wildly enthusiastic. Having inherited magical powers from her mother, she is driven by her desire to forge her own path. Motivated by love, loyalty, friendship and fairness, Glimmer truly believes she an do anything with her friends by her side. Her skills are teleportation, energy blasts and sparkle powers. Her strengths are that she is fiercely confident in herself and her friends, extremely driven by justice and is a hard working team player. Her struggles include tending to lose her temper quickly and often stretches herself too thin.” Umm- hello? This is totes me!
I also feel like I inherited my magical powers from my mom. My mom is an amazing woman who raised me to be kind, loving, loyal and hard working. I work hard every day to make her proud. My friends make me feel like I too have sparkle powers and I’ve been blessed that they love me just the way that I am.
