pink-it's not even a question
Last week I was doing a Mind Yeti exercise with one of my little one’s and their mom. If you don’t know Mind Yeti, you really need to take a look. It’s a super beautiful app that teaches mindfulness in fun ways for kids.
The exercise we were doing was called Breathing in Calm. This is an exercise to help when you’re having a stormy day with strong feelings. Once you find your Yeti body, you check in with your body, your thoughts and your feelings. Then you pick a color for your strong feelings and a color for your calm feelings, and then you breathe in and think of your calm color and breathe our your strong feeling colors.
Anyone who knows me well, knows I love coloring, colors, and especially the color pink.- it’s for sure my calm color. My strong feeling color was red. When I think of the color pink, I think of the pink peonies at my wedding, cotton candy at the Santa Cruz boardwalk, my Strawberry Shortcake dolls, My Little Ponies, strawberry ice cream, pink feather boa doughnuts from Top Pot and the Aerosmith song (which makes me think of my college days and car rides to Taco Bell, in the middle of Kentucky, with girlfriends :) )
Maybe you can download the app tonight and try it with your family. Or just think about the colors that make you feel calm and share around the dinner table. Simple exercises like this take about five minutes to do and reinforce all the good things we work on in counseling sessions and can help grown ups learn a thing or two as well.
what’s your calm colo?
